The choice and combination of materials is central to my work, as is a pared-down design and patterned
surface. My pieces are created using grogged and ungrogged clays in various tones on a potter's wheel.
I have been experimenting with printing onto clay for many years, using liquid stoneware and porcelain
slips and natural pigment. A partial transparent glaze is applied when necessary to allow a piece to fulfill
its function (the rims of my cups are glazed, for instance). This creates a beautiful contrast (both visual
and tactile) between the glossy and rough textures in a piece.
